Real Weddings: Kristie & Josh

May 6th, 2010

It was such a delight to work with a couple where you could constantly see the love in their eyes. The theme for Kristie and Josh’s wedding was Come Fly With Me. Each guest had their own individual escort paper planes that directed them to their “flight”, or table. Each and every table was named after a different flight to a different location! And Johnathan’s Flowers did a wonderful job with the floral arrangements and made everyone feel as if they were floating above the clouds on this romantic evening.

Kristie & Josh’s ceremony was held at Annunciation Catholic Church in Altamonte Springs, followed by a cocktail hour at the Ritz-Carlton Orlando Grande Lakes on the Da Vinci Terrace, then the lavish reception in the Plaza Ballroom, and the festivities ended once again on the Da Vinci Terrace for the Desert Reception and the Sparkler Send Off, a wonderful ending to a wonderful evening.

StyleHouse Coordinator opens Rock n Roll Barbershop

March 22nd, 2010

FloydsLogo6-6-06

After injuries ended his uber-promising career in major league baseball, Kyle Sleeth (husband to StyleHouse’s Sarah) decided to rock the house another way.  The former starting pitcher for the Detroit Tigers teamed up with his wife Sarah to open Orlando’s first ever rock n’ roll barbershop on March 11.

_DSC0589_edited-1

“The place will be an experience,” says Kyle, who never fully recovered from elbow surgery in 2005.  “We’re both in love with what we’re about to do.”

Floyd’s 99 Barbershop for Men and Women is a rock n’ roll retreat of black leather barber chairs, flat screened TVs, internet stations, music broadcast from their own radio station and walls polluted with posters—everyone from John Lennon and The Stones to The Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam, and The Black Eyed Peas.  Think: Hard Rock meets haircutting; or, if you like: Pink Floyd meets Floyd the Barber.

“We talked with more than 300 applicants and almost all of them have said they’ve been waiting for a place like this,” say the Sleeth’s, who already hired 15 people for the first of several shops they intend to open throughout Central Florida, eventually planning to employ more than 100 people in the area..  “People want a place where they can fit in, not conform.”

Warner Brothers is so impressed, they’re using Floyd’s 99 to promote their new movie Clash of the Titans (opening April 2)—which involves a free trip to Greece for two lucky Floyd’s 99 customers.

_DSC0643_edited-3Cuts start at $15 and come with a free shoulder and neck massage.  Old fashioned straight razor shaves come with hot towel treatment. The shop takes walk-ins and color by appointment.  Men, women and children are welcome and their customer-friendly worldview means they’re open 9 to 9 m-f, 9 to 8 on Saturday, and 11-6 on Sunday.

Floyd’s 99 is a high-quality option for anyone seeking middle-ground between luxury salons and discount haircutters,” says Sarah, who recently won Central Florida Bride magazine’s “Coordinator of the Year” award for her work with the StyleHouse Weddings and Events team.  “Our services rival the high-end salons, our prices don’t.”

The new shop is located on 3150 South Orange Ave., Orlando, and can be reached at 407-601-5960.  All cuts are currently half price.

If Rolling Stone magazine ever opened a barbershop, it would look like Floyd’s 99.  Katy Perry uses one shop as the backdrop for a scene in her Hot n’ Cold video; HBO Entourage stars appear in front of another; and several reality TV shows have filmed their contestants getting rock star makeovers there.  The brainchild of the O’Brien brothers, the first shop opened in Denver in 2001 and has since become the fastest growing group of barbershops in the United States with 42 locations in 10 states.

THE HOT SEAT: Molly Brown, Cinematique Films

January 26th, 2010

“Molly, what would you tell a bride that wasn’t sold on having a videographer at her wedding?”

Well, I would tell her I once felt the same way!  Ten years ago when I got married, I thought that my photographer was enough and didn’t even entertain the idea of hiring a professional videographer to capture my day.  It was a decision I have regretted ever since.  Not only did I have my dream wedding with 200+ guests but my father (who was an intrical part of my day) has since passed away just 2 years ago.  If I had hired a videographer, I would have professional footage of my father tearing up as he walked me down the aisle, crystal clear audio of him giving his tender and loving toast, and I could relive our our Father/Daughter dance whenever I wanted.  None of this footage was caught and the pictures unfortunately did not tell our story.

Ok, so aside from the obvious reason of preserving our loved ones through video, another great reason is you get a MOVIE of your wedding day!  What is cooler than that?  With the technology and editing styles available today, the sky is the limit when it comes to producing an amazing cinematic film that captures all the romance, excitement, and SOUNDS of your big day that, let’s face it, will fly by faster than you can stop to smell your bouquet!

THE HOT SEAT: Michele Davis Lowery, Blush Paperie

January 20th, 2010

“Michele, What tips about invitations and wedding stationary can you share with new brides?”

When thinking about your paper needs for your wedding, there are 3 main categories to consider – the save the date, the invitations, and the reception stationery. One of the best ways to view your paper needs is to look at these 3 categories as a package. In doing so, you can create a cohesive look and almost certainly save money.

 Save the Dates

If you are using a print method that requires a printing plate be made (offset, thermography, etc.) you will almost definitely be able to save money by printing your save the dates with your invitation. Ask your stationer about this. A beautifully designed and printed save the date  is a great opportunity to really set the wow factor for your event.

Invitations

The choices and possibilities for invitations are absolutely endless. Whatever you can dream up is possible. However, if you don’t have an endless budget, there are several ways to get more bang for your buck when choosing invitations.

Colors – One way to save big is to print in all black. I recently printed an invitation in all black thermography (raised printing) and it is absolutely stunning! When you have a textured type of print (like thermography) and the design literally pops off the page, the all black looks incredibly sharp.

BP-stylehouse-photo-2

Consider printing your invitations in just 1 color, especially if you are using letterpress for your invitations. This will significantly decrease your cost.

BP-stylehouse-photo-3

Self assembly – The simple touch of adding a card stock backing to your invitation, creating a layered look, completely elevates the invitation. If you decide to add these, save money by assembling them yourself.

Reception stationery

Bringing the look from your wedding invitations into your reception is a great way to create a cohesive feel. This is also a fun time to use your new married name!

Some elements to consider…

Seating – If you are having a very large wedding, seating charts often work very well. You can fit hundreds of guests on one chart, but the price of the chart stays the same.

If you use escort cards, put couples on one card to cut down on how many cards you need to order.

BP-stylehouse-photo-5

Menus – Menus at every seat are lovely, but some times this just isn’t in the budget. Combine your table number and menu in one piece that you display on the table in a frame.

Finding the right stationer for you

When it is time for you to find a stationer, make sure you see samples in person. That doesn’t mean you are limited to your local area. Almost all online invitation sites will mail you samples. Check reviews on weddingwire.com or similar review sites. Pay attention to how long it takes them to get back to you when you are in the research stage. This will likely be indicative of how their communication will be once you order. If you need a very specific color, ask about color matching in your research stage. Some stationers charge a steep price for this, others offer it as part of their service. Once you have placed your order and your proofs are ready, make sure to ask several people to proofread them with you because one of the worst thing that can happen is an error on your printed materials.

Hot Trends in 20ten! *Day 4*

January 9th, 2010

We’re going RETRO for our next 4 wedding trends being featured today and tomorrow! These trends were definitely hot “to dos” some time ago…now they are back and better than ever! Today we’ll start with two that are most relevant to the wedding ceremony.

#7 Bird Cage Veils

Going hand and hand with the return of the Vintage style wedding dresses and bridesmaids dresses, the bird cage veil has also gained popularity in recent months. Class and timeless beauty are two adjectives typically synonymous with the look brides achieve with this choice of veil. One of our favorite vendors offering a variety of couture birdcage veils is Castle Bride. Check their website out here.

One of our favorite brides, Lindsey, recently wore a birdcage veil during her stylish, vintage wedding….and she was stunning!

#8 Bouquets Wrapped in Lace or Patterned Fabric

Adding a twist of sophistication to the typical satin wrapped bouquet, brides are opting for more texture and dimension to their personal flowers. Classic lace adds a touch of vintage elegance that is different unexpected.

Hot Trends in 20ten! *Day 3*

January 8th, 2010

Tips 5 and 6 are two of my personal favorites! So…please excuse me if I rave for too long! ;)

Around the six month mark, you should be very much in the swing of things with finalizing all of your main vendors and deciding on all the details of the wedding.  Two important aspects that will become a priority at that time are your bridesmaids’ dresses and wedding invitations.  Here are two options for you that have rarely been seen prior to the new year and will be sure to be a first for most of your guests!

#5 Two Birds Bridesmaids’ Dresses

If you are in the majority with most brides and have a bridal party consisting of ladies with a variety of shapes and sizes, Two Birds’ bridesmaids’ dresses is the solution to that ageold headache of finding the “perfect” dress to accomodate all.  Every StyleHouse bride tends to be gorgeous and incrediably fashionable.  Additionally, our brides tend to be considerate of their closest girl pals and secure with their beauty that we ALWAYS come to that fork in the road of helping find that bridesmaids’ dress that will make every lady in their wedding party look amazing!

Recently featured on WEtv’s My Fair Wedding, Two Birds offers bridesmaids 1 stylish dress that has at least 12 different ways of being worn. Every lady can showcase their style and maintain a priceless level of comfort while all looking consistent and undeniably gorgeous!

#6 Video Wedding Invitations

Taking on the swing of the technology age, less traditional brides and grooms are opting for a wedding invitation that is very personal and unique. Most guests will be pleasantly surprised when they receive a DVD with a video message from you and your hunny personally inviting them to your nuptials. The packaging of your video invitation can be just as creative as its contents.

Whether in cased in a stylish stationary ensemble or a luxe silk invitation box, the dressing can be just as unique and expressive as the DVD.

Hot Trends in 20ten! *Day 2*

January 7th, 2010

Today’s hot trends are focused on taking the reception above and beyond.  No longer are receptions bound by the expected traditions of the first dance, garter and bouqet toss, and cake cutting.  Now couples are electing to add dimension and unexpected fun to the evening.  Two of our favorite reception focused trends are the interactive photobooth and after parties featuring a second DJ.

#3 The ‘Revised’ Photobooth

Although the photobooth is not a new trend on the horizon, couples are changing the concept a little by allowing guests to pose in front of a funky fun backdrop and with a variety of props.  Guests LOVE this interactive station that allows for them to be a little silly.  Additionally, this activity often becomes a hit when guests realize they can take a copy of the photo with them!  One of the trendsetting companies providing these “revised” photobooths is Our Labor of Love in Atlanta, GA (offering the Smilebooth).  Have your guest ’smile’ and say “CHEESE!”

(Yes…the last picture is R&B Superstar Usher!)

#4 Disc Jockey…number two

To cap the evening off, a lot of couple are electing to add another dimension and added vibe to their reception by offering an after party featuring a second DJ!  Often this DJ is more popular in the club scene and can play some of those songs that your friends can enjoy after most of the older guest bid ado.  One of our favorite DJs in Orlando, DJ Infa-red, has been known to have guests begging for more when most receptions typically wind down.  Adding to the “party” atmostphere, consider a DJ who can bring out the mixers and who is familiar with the popular songs current on your favorite radio station.  Your guests will be so impressed with the impromtu change in DJs and atmosphere, you’ll have to turn the lights on just to get them to leave!

Hot Trends in 20ten! *Day 1*

January 6th, 2010

#1 BRIGHT Colors

I’m sure in years past you have been to many, many weddings where the color palette consists of pastels and/or chocolate brown.  Although those shades were the trend of that time, the new decade has ushered in bold brand new color trends that will satisfy the couture to the classic and the modern to the traditional brides.

Bright colors are here to make a bold statement!  Your guests will take note of your sense of style which is associated with your hue on choice.  With a bold color selection, guests will have no option but to correlate the passion you have for your hubby with the passion behind the color.  Shades such as fire red, tangerine, turquoise, and fuchsia will definitely set your wedding apart!

#2 The Mini-dress

The hot new look for the 2010 bride is strutting the mini-dress!  These shorter versions of a traditional bridal gown are fun and appropriate for many wedding styles.  Whether you are having a modern, funky ceremony and reception or celebrating your nuptials with a vintage flair, these dresses will set the tone.  As well, if you are getting married in a cathedral or wanting to stick to a more traditional ceremony, show your daring side with a cute mini-dress during the reception!
